A lot of the very experienced did very well at the Championships, but there are also new stars. Lucas Bassett did much better than expected.
The 24-year-old Frenchman ended with two medals: silver on the Middle Distance, just three seconds after winner Daniel Hubmann, and bronze in the forest Relay together with Vincent Coupat and Frederic Tranchard.
“We three in the team are studying together at the same university in Lyon”, says Lucas. They are also all a part of the French training group in St. Etienne. That’s 90 kilometres from Lyon. “Two–three times during the week we go to St. Etienne”.
On the Relay two of the best, Thierry Gueorgiou and Philippe Adamski, didn’t take part, but the “reserve-team” impressed a lot.
On the Middle, Lucas impressed and surprised everyone and almost won. “I hoped to be among the ten best before the race”.
On the Long he ended an incredible Championships with ninth place.
