Ready to return to the golden track

This time Kirsi Boström can see much more than last time she visited Scotland. This time too, the champion from 1999 also aims to run the golden course again.
Kirsi won the Long Distance at WOC in 1999. This time the Long Distance will be at the same place, Glen Affric. He and husband Michael Boström have their son Kristian together with them. He is eager to orienteer, and Kirsi looks forward to a special run with him. “The plan is to run the course I won in 1999 together with him”, she says.
Kristian is 13 years old. He has a twin brother Mattias. They were born early and it was a tough time for the family. Kirsi thinks the success from WOC was a good help. “I had achieved a dream and won. In a hard time in life it was a help to remember that if you work hard you can manage a lot”, she says.
Kirsi, husband Michael and son Kristian are also running the Scottish 6-Days, that is being organised together with WOC and has more than 5,000 taking part.
How is Kirsi doing this time? Almost among the best in Women 45. “But there’s a Swede that’s much better”, she tells. After Kristian has become keen, the family has again been more eager to go orienteering.
Kirsi’s sister Johanna, who also was among the very best in the world, is also running the Scottish 6-Days. Johanna is in W40.
This time Kirsi is seeing much more than at the championships 16 years ago. “At that time I was probably so focused on the sport that I didn’t see so much. Now I see much more and how nice it is here”.
