Bertuka: “I’m a professional Mum”

Kristine Kokina Bertuka was ten seconds late for running on Sunday evening. That isn’t a big problem for the wife of one of the men that can be one of the big names at WOC.
Kristine finished as the first of all at WOC in Great Britain. “Nice to be the first finisher and it was nice to take part”, she smiled. The Latvian finished in the end as number 20 in group one. Then she was five places (or ten seconds) late to be in the final Sunday evening.

Kristine was just taking part in Sprint at WOC. “If I’m a sprinter?” she smiles. “No, but that was what I qualified for”.
On Tuesday she is going home to Latvia. That’s when her husband, Edgars Bertuks, starts in the games. He won the Middle Distance at WOC in 2012 and is candidate for a very good performance this year also. The Championship is much more important for him than Kristine. “He’s a professional sportsman. I am a professional Mum”, she laughs.
It’s due to the couple’s son Jurdys, who is one and a half years old, that she is going home on Tuesday. “I don’t want to be so long time from him. From home I will follow the Championships on the Internet”.
