WOC next year just across the fjord

The distance from the arena for the World Cup Long Distance and the arena for two of the races at next year’s World Championships is just a bit over double the longest leg on the men’s course in yesterday’s Long Distance race.
This World Cup race was organised in Norway, but the distance to Sweden is very short – also to the arena for the WOC Long Distance and Relay in the coming year in Strömstad. “It’s 7.9 km as the crow flies to the arena for WOC next year”, told Per Forsberg, the commentator yesterday. The longest leg on yesterday’s Long Distance was 3.3 km. Between the arenas is Iddefjorden and some forest.
Yesterday’s race was organised at Prestebakke in the municipality of Halden and about twenty km south of the Norwegian city with so many orienteers. The terrain has been mapped before, but a very long time ago; the last map of a part of the area was produced in 1985. The terrain has therefore not been used for training by the Norwegian club.
240 athletes from 32 different nations are taking part in these World Cup races in Norway and Sweden. After the two first races in Halden there are two races in Sweden.
