Ski Orienteering World Cup: Round 2 this week in Bulgaria

Natalya Tomilova, Russia and Olli-Markus Taivainen, Finland will be striving to hold on to their lead positions in the World Cup standings when the next four World Cup races are staged this week in Uzana, Bulgaria. Two races count for the new Sprint World Cup competition, currently led by Kiril Veselov, Russia.
The programme in Uzana includes three individual races starting with a Sprint race on Tuesday. On Wednesday there is a Long distance race with mass start, and on Friday a Middle distance race. The week’s racing ends with a mixed sprint relay on Saturday. In this race, new to the World Cup, teams are 1 man + 1 woman or two women, each skiing three legs of 1.8 – 2.0 km. Each national federation can enter up to six teams.
Uzana ski resort is in central Bulgaria about 250 km east of Sofia, and the competition terrain, moderately hilly mixed forest with also a large open area, is between 1200 and 1400 metres above sea level.
