The President of the International World Games Association, Ron Froehlich, announced on Tuesday that The World Games 2013 will be held in Cali, Colombia. It will be the first time that The Games are organised in South America.
President of the Executive Committee of Cali, Mr Pascual Guerrero, revealed the slogan of The World Games 2013: “The World Games for a clean planet.” Mr Froelich said that one of the reasons to pick Cali was that it has enormous experience in organising sport events. Just recently Cali held National Championships with more than 6,000 participants. The city has also the necessary infrastructure and sports venues.
The official contract between Cali and the IWGA about hosting the event shall be signed in September 2009. A Letter of Intent has already been signed during The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung.
The World Games is a quadrennial multi-sports event for those sports or disciplines not yet included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games. Orienteering made its debut on the program of The World Games in 2001.
