World Cup: Swedish dominance in middle distance

Swedish flags were flying high as Helena Jansson and Peter Öberg won the two senior elite classes in the first World Cup race of the season at Salo, Finland today. Jansson won by 38 seconds ahead of Marianne Andersen, Norway, with home runner Minna Kauppi finishing third a further 30 seconds down. A notable result was that of Inga Dambe, Latvia, who finished 6th equal. In the men’s race Öberg had a 25-second advantage over Thierry Gueorgiou, France. Russia’s Valentin Novikov was third, 40 seconds slower than the winner.
