“I went into a good flow”

Frida Sandberg did the first leg for the Swedish team at the last race at WSOC in Norway. She hadn’t expected that. The day ended incredibly well.
“Before the race I felt some nerves”, she says. Her team-mates were Tove Alexandersson and Josefine Engström, both skiing at a very high level.
“When I had started I went into a good flow”, Frida says. The young senior was number two, just 14.5 seconds after Finland, at the first changeover. Tove Alexandersson attacked a lot on the second leg, made some small mistakes and eventually sent Josefine Engström as the first one out on the last leg, with Finland changing over just after her. Mervi Pesu started the final leg just one second after Engström.
On the last leg it was a bit as it was at the European Championships a short while ago. Josefine was in front on almost the whole of the last leg. Just before the end the result became clear. “I saw a short track. Mervi missed that”, Josefine says.
The Swede got some metres ahead and showed her happiness as she came into the finish. Sweden had got the gold again.
Among the men Sweden was also hunting for first place. Their last victory was in 1994. It is still that after the race. The three Swedes did very well, but the Russians were even better.
Next time the Swedes have to fight for gold on the Russians’ home ground …
