Preview of final race of the World Cup Round 1

The final race in the opening round of the 2015 IOF World Cup, Long Distance, will be conducted tomorrow, January 10.
The men’s race is 13.8km and the women’s 9.8km
Swedish world number one Tove Alexandersson, after dominant victories in the Sprint Distance in Launceston last Saturday and the Middle Distance at Coles Bay on Thursday, will be a heavy favourite to take out the trifecta of races in this opening round of the 2015 IOF World Cup. Her main challengers appear to be Thursday’s runner up, Norway’s Mari Fasting and world number 2, Denmark’s Ida Bobach. It will also be interesting to see if the Swiss Judith Wyder can bounce back from a disappointing run in Thursday’s Middle Distance race. Long Distance World Champion Svetlana Mironova and her compatriot Tatiana Ryabkina will be two others to watch in the women’s race.
The men’s race appears to be a race in two between world number 1, Norway’s Olav Lundanes and world number 2, Switzerland’s Daniel Hubmann. The other main challengers in the men’s race will be Sweden’s Gustav Bergman, Norway’s Magne Daehli and Hubmann’s team mates Matthias Kyburz and Florian Howald. Howald has been under the radar this week with two 4th races and will no doubt be keen to get amongst the top 3.
Australia interest will centre on how Tasmania’s Hanny Allston will perform in her favourite format and seek an improved performance after being disappointed with her race on Thursday’s Middle Distance.
The World Cup competitors will commence racing at 10.30 am local time.
