Sports Director Björn Persson leaves the IOF

IOF Sports Director Björn Persson announced earlier this month that he will not be renewing his contract at the end of this year.
Björn Persson has been working for the IOF since 1993 when he first became a member of the Map Committee. He served there for seven years, the last four as chairman, and then moved to Foot Orienteering work, chairing both the Elite Events Programme Project and the Elite Events Commission.
Björn Persson has been working professionally as IOF Sports Director since 2006. He has also been the Senior Event Adviser for World Orienteering Championships 2006, 2013 and 2014. He has been the driving force for developing orienteering on TV, and highly involved in the development of foot orienteering and event quality throughout the years.
“The IOF Council is very sorry that Björn Persson, our Sports Director, is leaving us to concentrate on his business activities. Björn’s service both as a professional and a volunteer in the IOF over a period of 22 years has been outstanding and especially in the areas of TV, event quality, and arena production he has taken our sport into a new era. We will greatly miss his experience, his expertise and his personality”, IOF President Brian Porteous says.
