IOF Council has taken the decision to appoint Finland organiser of the Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) 2017. The events will be held in Tampere in conjunction with Fin 5 orienteering week. Over 5000 participants are expected to come to Fin 5, which uses the same arenas as JWOC.
Major orienteering events that have been organised in Tampere area include World Orienteering Championships 1979 and 2001, and Jukola Relay 1986 and 2008. All those events have been organised with close co-operation between the local orienteering club and the city of Tampere. The city of Tampere is also strongly supporting the Junior World Orienteering Championships organisation.
There will be no entry fees for JWOC.
