Posted on | July 9, 2014 | Category: News
A meeting for delegates from national federations and observers was held today, where items to be debated at the IOF General Assembly tomorrow were presented in more detail and there was the opportunity for discussion.
The first item was IOF Statutes, where there is a proposal to elect the Council members for a 4-year term, and for half the Council to be elected every two years. Another under this heading is for all decisions on the appointment of World Championship organisers to be made by IOF Council, and not every other year by the General Assembly as happens now.
Detail on the Competition Programme Review Project was presented; there are many issues here to be considered and one of the priorities is the future development of the footO World Cup. There is an aim to try to create similar competition programmes in all disciplines. The plan is to produce a report by January 2016 with a view to proposals going to the 2016 General Assembly – though some representatives present urged faster progress.
A report was given from the Adventure Racing Working Group, and the Council’s view on this and the Russian proposal to have rogaining as a new discipline was presented.
IOF President Brian Porteous spoke of developments in televising World Championships and the IOF’s Olympic Project, and information was given on plans for orienteering in The World Games in 2017 in Poland.
IOF Vice President Leho Haldna gave details of the implementation of the IT Services Project, which among many other things will provide an application and entries service for all IOF events, including World Ranking Events.
All candidates for the IOF Council gave short personal presentations.
About 50 people were present at the meeting, and there were interesting and varied questions and discussion points on a number of items.
