Lundanes’ first victory since 2012

Olav Lundanes was once again the very best today, but he thinks that his shape has to be better for success in Italy. “I felt it was hard physically”, he says.

The Norwegian won just in front of Pasi Ikonen. He ran an almost perfect race technically in the forests around Kongsberg, just 100 kilometres south-east of Oslo.

“If Thierry Gueorgiou and Valentin Novikov had taken part, it would have been difficult to win”, he says. This was his sixth World Cup race win, and it was his first since getting first place in a Sprint race in Oslo in autumn 2012.

In what is a kind of a come-back year (he had a long break last summer), he has had some challenges with injuries this year too. A short time ago he had to avoid running in forest terrain for a couple of weeks, but now he has been back in the forest for a couple of weeks. Last weekend he was in Italy and competed there in preparation for WOC.

“If I can do some good training in the last weeks before WOC, I think I can be in good shape”, he says. He will go for Middle, Long and the Relay.
