Hara and Foliforov strongest at World Cup opening

Mountain bike orienteering World Cup kicked off today in North Zealand, Denmark, with a sprint race. Women’s World Ranking leader Marika Hara, Finland, showed that she is at least as strong this year as she was in 2013. She won the race 5 seconds before Emily Benham, Great Britain, and Eeva-Liisa Hakala, Finland.
Hara says the area suited very well for sprint mountain bike orienteering. “The course was interesting, with both short and long legs with route choices”, she says.
In the men’s race, Anton Foliforov, Russia, currently second in the World Ranking, won before Erik Skovgaard Knudsen, Denmark, and Lauri Malsroos, Estonia.
The World Cup continues tomorrow with Long distance race with mass start, and the first round concludes on Sunday with mixed relay.
