Svetlana Mironova has never done so well in an individual international race as on the Long distance today, but there is something that counts even more for her. “The victory at the relay at the European Championships two years ago counts more”, Svetlana says.

But as an individual athlete today’s race was a step forward. The 27-year-old Russian got her first individual international medal. “It showed that I can be among the very best and fight for the medals”, she says.

She is from Nizhni Novgorod, a city 450 kilometres east of Moscow.

For Russia it was a very good day in the women’s class, with three women among the five best. Anastasia Tikhonova was fourth and Galina Vinogradova five. What a team Russia will have in the relay!
