For Judith Wyder it’s kind of a new world this season. The Swiss athlete is happy to be more responsible for her results. “Of course there is a change for us others in the team now that Simone (Niggli) has stopped her career”, Judith says. In the Sprint final she took the place Simone had at the European Championships (EOC) two years ago in Sweden. This is her first international individual gold.
– What’s different, without Simone in the team?
“For years she has had good results and we others have learnt a lot. Now it’s a new team and we have to do more and handle the pressure. I like to handle more pressure. For us other girls there is also coming more interest from media now. Now we have to answer!”
Judith has been doing well for some years now. At the World Championships in France she got silver at Middle distance, behind Helena Jansson.
In the sprint in the town of Palmela, the first final of EOC, Judith was so happy after finishing. “I was so nervous before the race, and made some small mistakes at the start of the race. How big were they? I don’t really know. And that’s not so interesting now”, she laughs.
