European Ski Orienteering Championships: home victory in Mixed Sprint Relay

The Russian team of Vladimir Barchukov and Yuliya Tarasenko won the first event of the Championships being held near Tyumen in Russia, an exceptionally close-fought race in which 14 teams finished within 2 minutes. Bulgaria took silver and Sweden bronze.
Six seconds was the gap to the second team to finish, a surprise silver medal position going to the Bulgarian team of Stanimir Belomazhev and Antoniya Grigorova-Burgova. Each team of 1 man and 1 woman skied six legs, starting with the man and alternating thereafter.
Third place in the race and 10 seconds down on the winner was the Russian team consisting of Kirill Veselov and Anastasiya Kravchenko, and 1 second behind them finished Sweden 1, Erik Rost and Tove Alexandersson therefore taking the bronze medals.
The next race, on Saturday afternoon local time, is the individual Sprint.
