The weather and snow conditions were excellent at the first ever Turkish Ski Orienteering World Ranking Event.
The first ever Turkish Ski Orienteering World Ranking Event was held yesterday at a new ski resort Ergan at Erzincan, Turkey.
It was the Turkish Association of Orienteering Coaches and Referees who had the responsibility for the event, with good support from the local authorities and the Turkish Orienteering Federation.
Thanks to good marketing and great arrangements, the world elite ski orienteers found the time to take part in this competition; and it resulted in an impressive podium.
In their interviews the athletes said that the courses were very challenging and difficult. It was tricky orienteering at a high speed – just as ski orienteering should be! There were local skiers as well, and they successfully finished the courses, but could not compete at such a high speed yet. It was confirmed already now that next year at the same dates there will be another ski orienteering event in Erzincan.
