There are 213 days remaining before the World University Orienteering Championships 2014 in the Czech Republic will be officially opened. It is still quite a long time, but some activities need to be prepared in advance. One of these activities is designing the medals that will be awarded to the best competitors in the five finals.
The current leader of the Biathlon World Cup, Gabriela Soukalová has studied the programs of engraving and medal making at a school of art. She agreed to design the medals for the Championships. Half a year has passed since Gabriela, one of the Czech medal hopes at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, created the first computer model of the medals. Since then, the medals have been approved by FISU, and the medals are now completed.
Unfortunately, we will have to wait to see the real medals. Their presentation will be part of the official opening ceremony of the Championships. But the image of the plaster model of the medals will soon be published online. Follow the “WUOC News” on the official event website: http://wuoc2014.cz.
The best thing one can do is of course to go and personally take a look at the medals. The World University Orienteering Championships 2014 begin on Monday, 11 August in Olomouc, in the grounds of the armoury Tereziánská.
