Big interest for the IOF High Level Event Seminar in Sweden

Posted on | January 6, 2014 | Category: News

The IOF High Level Event Seminar, also known as the “HLES”, will set a new participation record this year.

The seminar, which focuses on education and experience sharing for organisers of top-level international orienteering events, will be staged 1-2 February in Hindås, Sweden, close to Gothenburg international airport. This year 53 delegates and lecturers from 15 nations have entered, which is up by 20% from the previous record. Entries includes all appointed organisers of the World Orienteering Championships, organisers of the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2015 and 2016, and World Cup organisers 2014 and 2015.

Lectures will be given by among others Jyrki Uotila, Event Director of WOC 2013 in Finland, David May, responsible for WMOC within the IOF and Heikki Peltola, National Controller of WOC 2013 and Head Controller of the Jukola Relays in Finland. A special session on event-IT will feature speeches from experts such as Henning Spjelkavik of the IOF IT Commission and Daniel Leibundgut, the Swiss expert on time-keeping and result management.

The seminar starts with a joint session followed by three parallel tracks. This splitting-up into focus areas will be a first for HLES. “I am very impressed by the interest for HLES in Sweden”, says Björn Persson, IOF Sports Director and head of the organising team. “It shows again the need for organisers and event experts to come together for sharing experiences and learning from each other’s successes and mistakes. I am very grateful for our federations’, this time the Swedish Orienteering Federation’s, readiness to partner with us to set up the seminar”, Björn Persson concludes.
