Tove Alexandersson did not succeed in holding the first place in the overall World Cup to the end. Now she is preparing herself for new goals.
From the World Cup Final in Switzerland the Swedish star travelled directly to Italy. On holiday perhaps? Not at all. Tove is looking forward to the upcoming World Championships in Italy in 2014. She was in Italy already earlier this autumn, but she feels she needs more experience. “When the winter comes there it isn’t possible to train any more. It’s good now”, Tove says.
The first-year senior had been in the lead of the overall World Cup for a long time until she lost the position in the sprint race in Baden. “I had a good race. I just wasn’t good enough”, Tove summarises.
The 21-year-old Swede was number four in the last race, just 36 seconds after winner Simone Niggli in the 2.5 km long race with 17 controls in the centre of Baden. If Tove had been 20 seconds faster she would have managed to win the World Cup overall.
Tove did not take part in the second-last race of the World Cup because she wanted to have fresh legs in the last race. “When I didn’t succeed I feel that I should have taken part in the second last race, but had I taken part I would maybe not have been satisfied with that either, if I had become number two in the World Cup overall as I now became”, she says.
In her first season as senior, Tove Alexandersson was already fighting hard for overall victory in the World Cup.
