Heat and sprint suit Kiril well

“Tomorrow’s sprint seems to be a lot about running”, Kiril Nikolov says, and continues: “that suits me well – but that suits many others as well. Still, I am aiming to get a medal.”
Kiril says that warm weather suits him as well, and he hopes it is an advantage for him in the race. “It will be very difficult to get a medal with so many world’s top orienteers here – it will be fighting all the way, for every second”.

The World Games have already been an experience for him, even though the events have not yet started. “It is nice that there are so many nations here”, Kiril says. “And it is interesting to be in Colombia. It seems that they are taking the security issues really seriously; it feels almost that they are overreacting, as there are policemen in every corner, and everywhere in the parks. You will not be able to run out from the map, as there is a line of policemen waiting for you! And yesterday they wanted to escort us when we just needed to cross a street from the hotel. We refused the police escort”, he laughs.
When Kiril and his friends were about to go for a run in the mountains outside of their hotel, they were stopped and asked to change their plans. They however wanted to continue, but agreed to leave their watches and mobile phones at the hotel, “and to be very careful”. They were even asked to have older running shoes on when going to the mountains. And what happened, when they then indeed met locals long way from the city in the mountains? The locals greeted them happily, and cheered and applauded to the runners! “Colombia is an interesting country and the people very friendly!”, Kiril concludes.
