“To maintain high speed and intensity, and to avoid mistakes, however minimal” – these are according to The World Games course setter, Mike Dowling, the biggest challenges for the athletes in the Sprint race, that takes place on Friday 2 August. The terrain in the popular park El Ingenio is almost flat, and the runnability very good.
The terrain for Middle distance is different: “Various speedtechniques will be needed, and the athletes will need to decide when it’s OK to run fast and when they need to take it easier”, Dowling says. The different types of vegetation in the terrain will create challenges for the runners.
The model event that takes place later today is held in an area next to the Sprint terrain, and therefore it is very similar to that.
