Frida Sandberg started the year running in the World Cup in orienteering for seniors. In the middle distance here she became individual Junior World Champion for the first time. “It’s great to get the gold”, the talent smiles.

All year around she is doing really well. Even though she still has another year as a junior, she took part in the World Cup ‘down under’ and took impressive 12th, 19th and 19th places in the races. Last year she won a medal at each distance at the Junior World Orienteering Championships. In ski orienteering she was in the winning Swedish team. “But I didn’t get any individual medal last year”, she says.

– How was it to change from three weeks in New Zealand to ski orienteering?

“In the first week after the orienteering in New Zealand I rested and got my energy back”, she says. When her energy had returned, there were still two weeks until the races in Madona in Latvia.

Frida had a very good start in the middle distance race. “After that there were more tracks and I also felt it was difficult to read the map with all the tracks. I made some mistakes”, the 19-year-old says. She is a student at the orienteering college in Sandviken.

– Are you going to prioritise one of these sports?

“I am proud to be taking part in both sports. I have no thoughts about prioritising one of them”.
