Lundanes: “Good for me with the climbing”

Olav Lundanes won the Sprint distance at Holmenkollen today, and the Norwegian thinks it was good for him with the running being in forest and with a lot of climbing.
“The course was such that I had to climb the height of the ski jump at Holmenkollen almost 3 times. There was also a lot of forest running. This was positive for me”, Lundanes says.
The 24-year-old athlete set up a time gap that became smaller towards the end of the race. Matthias Kyburz, the World Champion in this distance, was coming closer, but only just as he finished could the last starter, Olav Lundanes, raise his hands. He had won the race by a margin of one second. “I’m not surprised at being beaten by Olav. He has been strong all this year”, Kyburz says.
With wins in both the final and the qualification race, Lundanes has increased his lead in the World Cup overall, and his chances of winning the Nordic Orienteering Tour have also grown a lot.
On Sunday it is a Middle Distance race, and that is a distance that Lundanes enjoys much more than Sprint. The Norwegian, who was fourth in the Sprint at WOC in 2009, prefers the longer distances.
