As announced at the Joint Meeting of the IOF Council and Commissions, and consequently on the IOF Twitter and Facebook pages, the IOF Council has decided, after listening to the IOF Athletes’ Commissions, to go back to having six athletes on the podium in most medal ceremonies.

The IOF Council has decided to make Sprint Relay an official part of World Cup 2015 in their recent meeting in Helsinki. The overall programme for World Cup 2015 was also confirmed.

The IOF Trail Orienteering Commission has published an updated version of the IOF Technical Guidelines for Elite Trail Orienteering. The first version of the Guidelines was published in 2009.

The IOF has received several major event applications for the 1 January 2014 deadline.
28/01/2014 || Vote for an orienteer – the best athlete of The World Games 2013 ||News||
The International World Games Association hasan online voting to find the best athlete of The World Games 2013 held in Cali, Colombia. They have shortlisted 10 athletes, amongst them one orienteer: the triple World Games winner Matthias Kyburz (SUI).

The IOF Foot Orienteering Commission has published a first version of Guidelines for Course Planning – World Class Events. This document addresses the challenges of course planning in the modern environment and gives guidance on how to create best possible courses by listening to the needs of the most important customers: athletes, coaches, spectators and media.
27/01/2014 || Ski Orienteering World Cup: Rvacheva and Alexandersson in tight battle ||News||
It’s tight at the top of the women’s World Cup standings at the end of the second round: Tatyana Rvacheva, Russia leads Tove Alexandersson, Sweden by just 5 points. The battle between these two will be resumed at the European Championships – the World Cup’s third round – in Russia in March.
26/01/2014 || Ski Orienteering World Cup: double Swedish success in Long distance ||News||
It was Sweden first and second in both the women’s and men’s races over Long distance, the final races of this World Cup round. Winners were Tove Alexandersson by 1.08 and Erik Rost by 25 seconds.
25/01/2014 || Ski Orienteering World Cup: Relay wins for Russia and Sweden ||News||
In two well-fought relay races at Orsa Grönklitt in Sweden, Russia won the women’s race, 38 seconds ahead of Sweden at the finish. The order was reversed in the men’s relay with Russia behind Sweden by 56 seconds.
